TRAINING

TTS provides basic radioactive material training, DOT hazmat employee training, motor carrier safety training (drug/alcohol training, motor carrier regulatory requirements, etc.), and other specialized courses to meet your specific needs. Our management team is experienced in training material handlers, fork lift operation, motorized pallet jacks and any other material handling equipment required.  TTS has “best in class” instructors that have regulatory backgrounds and experience in DOT regulatory requirements and US DOE policies/directives as well as experience in leading technical training sessions. TTS Information Technology staff led end user training for the Radio Frequency Identification Transport System supporting the electronic shipping and tracking of hazardous materials transportation across the Department of Energy Oak Ridge Operations’ reservation as well as conduct technical training sessions at other DOE facilities across the country. TTS is responsible for multiple areas of competency concerning training programs. These include, but are not limited to scheduling facilities, creation of the training program and all electronic and print materials required for a successful training session. TTS also has created computer based training programs as well as online registration and payments.

DOE Directives Training

This course provides instruction on the directive requirements and the directive system of the DOE.  DOE transportation related directives in the 460 and 461 series applicable to transportation and packaging are reviewed and discussed.  The instruction will include those federal statues and code of federal regulations applicable to DOE packaging and transportation activities.

Fee: $600.00

DOE Basic Radioactive Materials Packing and Transportation Training Class

A three day training session that provides instruction to participants who prepare, offer or transport shipments of hazardous materials, substances and waste including radioactive materials. The training develops skills and provides resources to aid in a shipment preparation and transport. It prepares professionals to perform self assessment of existing transportation and packaging activities. The training encourages direct trainee participation. The instruction is based upon requirements of DOE, DOT, EPA, IAEA, IAEA, IMO, USPS and NRC.

Fee: $750.00

DOE Advanced Hazardous Materials Training Class

This three day, comprehensive workshop of instruction to participants who prepare, offer or transport shipments of hazardous materials, substances and waste.  The instruction is based upon requirements of DOE, USDOT, EPA and NRC.  The instruction and work exercises are designed to provide performance based training to those individuals who perform one of the DOT defined hazmat functions, and is divided equally between hazardous materials, substances and waste.  Transportation of mixed radioactive waste is also covered in the workshop. Participants should have completed the Basic Radioactive Materials Packing and Transportation Training Class and have some previous basic hazardous materials experience.

Fee: $950.00

Safe Transportation of Radioactive Material (STORM) Training

During this 2 day course you will be taught how shipments containing radioactive materials are categorized through the use of A1/A2 values for various radioisotopes.  An introduction to the radioactive decay process and the concept of Reportable Quantities (RQ) and how these determinations are made.  You will learn the terms fissile, non-fissile and fissile exempt.  You will be introduced to the steps for selecting appropriate packaging for radioactive materials. A review will be done on the structural setup of the DOT’s Hazardous Materials Table and the IATA list of Dangerous goods.  Compliance with EPA, NRC will also be taught as they need to be considered in selecting shipping description information. There will be discussion of the concept of bulk and non-bulk packaging as they relate to radioactive materials. You will be provided an overview of the various types of radioactive materials packaging: Excepted, Industrial, Type A and Type B.  You will gain knowledge of the relation of radioactive materials packaging selection to the hazardous Materials Table.  You will review of the various designs and user requirements for radioactive materials packaging.  Knowledge will be gained in the packaging selections for the various types of Low Specific Activity (LSA) and Surface Contaminated Objects (SCO) shipments.

Fee: TBA

Tracking and Communications System (TRANSCOM)

TRANSCOM is the Department of Energy (DOE) unclassified Tracking and Communications System used to monitor the progress of various "high visibility" shipments, such as spent nuclear fuel, high-level and Transuranic radioactive waste.  With a demonstrated 99.8% reliability this nationwide 24-hour per day tracking system combines satellite and ground-based communications to monitor the progress of DOE truck, rail, barge, and ocean vessel shipments in near real time.  TRANSCOM has been used to monitor over 12,000 DOE high visibility shipments since its deployment in September 2001.

Fee: TBA

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR)

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to identify their roles and responsibilities as operators of commercial motor vehicles subject to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR).  Students will be able to identify the organization of the FMCSR, identify the entry level CMV operator training requirements, and identify the applicable knowledge and training requirements, and exceptions for CMV operators.  Course participants will be able to Define, Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV), and state the difference between a CMV and a motor vehicle. Course participants will be taught the state the minimum qualifications for a CMV driver. Course participants will be able to state the activities that can disqualify a driver from operating a CMV.   Course participants identify rules and conditions for safe operation of a CMV. Knowledge will be obtained to identify CMV drivers, hours of service requirements/ limitations and approved methods of timekeeping.  Course Participants will be able to state the requirements for driver and carrier CMV inspections, repair and maintenance and the elements of DOT driver and vehicle inspections. Course Participants Identify parts and accessories necessary for safe operation of a CMV.   Course Participants will identify the requirements for safe loading and securing a load on a CMV.  State the requirements for transportation of hazardous materials; driving and parking rules and identify the additional requirements to operate a cargo tank.  Course Participants will know when a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required for a person who operates a CMV and the activities that can disqualify a CDL holder from operating a CMV.  Course Participants will gain knowledge of the CDL types and associated endorsements and restrictions, requirements for reporting driving convictions and disqualifications for CDL holders and identify drug and alcohol testing requirements for CDL holders.
